Presidential journeys internationally have traditionally been an opportunity to demonstrate the power of the United States on the international platform. In the Malaysian stop, Trump gained access to critical minerals and made progress toward concluding commercial deals with south-east Asian nations. He also oversaw a pact that should alleviate border tensions between Thailand and Cambodia – the type of "peace deal" the president prefers to tout.
