A Major Signing for United Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side. Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently. It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised. Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga. For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals. She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals. Gathering Steam at Old Trafford The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum. Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals. In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity: The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023. Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.” Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
