LeBron James was aware his incredible run of putting up 10+ points was in danger. At the decisive instant, though, it didn't concern him.

The smart move meant distributing the rock – and he executed. With that selfless act, the unprecedented record finished.

James's astounding run of over 1,200 straight NBA regular season games with 10+ points was snapped on Thursday night, when basketball's greatest scorer had only eight points during the Los Angeles Lakers' close triumph versus Toronto. He made the decisive pass, finding teammate Rui Hachimura to knock down a three-pointer at the buzzer.

“Zero,” James said after being questioned about the streak ending. “The team got the victory.”

An Unselfish Decision Seals the Game

James could have attempted to win the contest – and preserved his record – in the closing seconds, instead, he decided to dish the ball to Hachimura on the wing. Rui connected, prompting James exulted with his hands in the air.

It's about playing the game the proper way. Make the smart play,” James noted. That has always been my M.O.. That is the way I was instructed to play. I've played that way for two decades.”

The record commenced over eighteen years ago. It was easily the greatest streak of its kind in NBA history: Michael Jordan had 866 consecutive games with 10+ points, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had 787, and Karl Malone had the fourth-longest run at 575.

However, two of those rare games below ten points after three periods had happened in the last week: He had nine points entering the final quarter versus the Mavericks on 28 November, and then had six going into the fourth versus the Suns earlier in the week.

LeBron was able to extend the streak in the Phoenix game. One game later, it finished – yet he was celebrating anyway.
