The Gory Cartoon Film Conclusion That Stays With Viewers

Among every adult-oriented animated films I have personally watched, nothing has stuck with me quite like the fear-filled ending of the viscerally violent as well as overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie The Unicorn Wars.

Back in the year 2015, this Spain-based filmmaker created a dark, bleak , often savage world that included a few small , desolate twinges of optimism.

Although Unicorn Wars appears as it came from a desire to advance the medium even more, the director explained that it was more an attempt to convey a global, multicultural theme about “the common origin of every conflict.”

That idea is communicated via a squad of vividly colored bears , obviously based on a well-known line of cuddly figures.

Maturing in a culture focused on warmongering and the war machine, many of these animals are consumed by exterminating the mythical beasts, due to a religious scripture that tells the bears they used to be rulers of the woods, before the horned beings drove them out.

Others have not completely fallen for the brainwashing, and choose to try out substances or mate outdoors.

Unlike their gentle counterparts, these bright beings show sexual organs and clear libidos.

For a certain notably brutal, cynical bear, the character Bluey, the war against unicorns turns into a road to control — and specifically to dominance above his more tender, more compassionate sibling Tubby.

The character acts as a tormentor and a seeming sociopath , and when horror dominates his squad and takes his comrades one by one, he grabs more and more control for himself, through ever more bloody, damaging approaches.

Simultaneously, the horned creatures are suffering their own horror, through an expanding, harmful creature in their forest.

“In the early stages, it seems like a comedy,” the filmmaker stated. “However it becomes a more serious and melancholic movie. And in the finale, it transforms into a terrifying movie.”

The Unicorn Wars begins feeling a bit like one of the most quirky films from a legendary animator, that discover a mischievous joy in permitting cartoon characters curse, fire weapons, or have intimate relations.

Then it evolves into something more like a bleaker movie from that artist, featuring progressively explicit brutality , a noticeable link to the actual horror of conflict.

In the finale, it’s a full-on theatrical horror bloodbath.

The terror which makes the film an ideal spooky-season watch begins a lot earlier than that description suggests.

Unicorn Wars is suited for the most dedicated lovers of violence, for enthusiasts of extreme cinema who desire to view a movie they’ve never seen on-screen before, and can endure a narrative that pulls unflinching brutality.

View it in a dark room with no disturbances, and that ending will dig under your skin and stay with you.
