First-choice XI

Dean Henderson Had little to do to perform before the break until tested by an opponent's curling effort. A sliding challenge against an Albanian attacker demonstrated sharp anticipation. Six out of ten

Jarell Quansah Tested against the opposition's primary attacker in their forward. Started more centrally early on then shifted out wide after a teammate entered the fray. 7

The defender Advanced up the pitch when in possession, as he has done before. At times lacked urgency in possession and the tactic abandoned at half-time. 6/10

Dan Burn Always dangerous at set pieces, as always, could serve as an alternative for his teammate in defense rather than his partner. One wayward pass later in the match came close to the first goal for Albania. 6

The young full-back A further confident showing from the rising star following his first cap versus another side. Saka was unable to take the most of a clever touch over the opposing backline. The left-back spot looks secure so soon. 7

The newcomer His maiden beginning for his country. A bit sloppy in possession though his inswinging set-pieces were a threat. A useful tempo-setter for the coach to call upon against teams who drop deep. Cautioned for a poorly timed challenge. 6/10

The midfielder Deliveries on corner kicks and set-plays were dangerous. Enjoyed license to roam in left midfield yet found himself offside upon receiving in front of goal. Awarded a well-earned substitution on the hour mark. 6

Jude Bellingham Operated in an advanced spot down the right and also put in defensive duties. Demonstrated moments of class and scuffed an effort over. Withdrawn late on by Rogers, a fellow player, following a yellow card. 7/10

The winger Was presented with England’s clearest opportunity in the opening period, his strike smartly stopped by Thomas Strakosha. As Quansah staying deep, it fell to him to stretch the play down the right side but his crosses into the box were inconsistent. Substituted for the final quarter-hour. 6/10

Harry Kane The difference-maker netting seventy-seventh and seventy-eighth finishes for his country. The opener a classic poacher’s finish while the second an excellent headed goal following a clever run off his defender. Now 32, he continues to improve with the national team stand a real opportunity next summer with him leading the line. Eight

Eberechi Eze Found it tough to influence play out wide. Had a good opening when set up from a teammate yet the keeper denied him. Rashford produced a bigger effect after coming on. 5/10
