New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the player will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His family, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.

“Don’t know just yet,” he added. “However, I can share, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. And again, that puts my mind at ease, given his positive frame of mind and his words reflect that optimism.”

NYPD issued security footage earlier this week of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt were reported.

The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday morning near Madison Square Garden and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has occupied his thinking “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife just had a baby.

“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “And I’m thinking about his wife, worrying about his newborn and my priority is his well-being. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There’s a process to this, I’ll keep private, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd hasn’t played during the current season, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with a shoulder issue that needed an operation.

He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in March and was expected to be a key part of an improved special teams group under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on 2 August and was carted from the field.

Boyd continued to be present throughout the season while working his way back.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, a Texas native, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of UT in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with New York in March.
