Legendary skier Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in a good place" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, after earning a top-three finish for the fourth time in her last five World Cup events. The veteran athlete, who achieved a milestone by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup podium finish. Impressive Performance in the French Alps Returning to the iconic venue for the first occasion in almost a decade, Vonn finished the course in a time of 1:20.60. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing the runner-up spot. "I didn't quite have enough direction on the first jump," Vonn remarked. "From that point on, I skied well. I'm satisfied with my performance today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough." This performance was her second podium at Val d'Isere during the event, having also claimed bronze in the downhill race on Saturday. A Remarkable Comeback from Injury Vonn officially retired in early 2019 because of ongoing knee problems. However, she made a stunning return in December 2024 after a significant orthopedic procedure. With less than two months remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's form are highly promising. She has an Olympic gold and two Olympic bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the next Olympics. "In Cortina, I will be where I need to be," the athlete confirmed. Aiming for Further Glory Alongside her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has secured over a professional journey spanning 20 years. She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the super-G World Cup table. This current World Cup campaign features a total of nine races scheduled before the circuit finale in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
