Indeed, it's Packed with Absurdity, Extreme Hosting and Psychobabble. Yet I Truly Love Meghan's Holiday Special.

No matter the time of year, it's perpetually hunting season for scrutiny on the Duchess of Sussex's TV show, With Love, Meghan. Reviewers, expert and amateur alike, have seldom found such common ground as when enthusiastically shredding the series' earlier episodes to shreds. The common opinion was that a bigger monarchy-related faux pas had hardly ever taken place than the notorious pretzel-bagging incident.

Now, as a festive rebel, she has returned with a new offering with a "Holiday Celebration" (aka a yuletide episode). However on this occasion, the dynamic has changed. The standard components audiences anticipate – psychobabble word salads, overzealous entertaining – remain, but set of a Christmas special, suddenly it all makes sense. The elements have slid together; it's a flawless festive blizzard.

At this stage, Meghan has become the quirky relative at Christmas celebrations everywhere – offering unasked-for guidance, and contributing the odd random outburst. ("I love spinach!" … "A tradition has to have a beginning." … "A tree is part of my memory and love of the holiday season.") She's quite a personality, but her company is customary and unexpectedly soothing. And she seems happy enough; she's causing a bit of damage.

She understands her all subtle gestures, utterance and glance will be dissected and judged, but nonetheless looks unburdened and serenely untroubled.

Perhaps this is the only time in history where that old chestnut – "Don't listen, it's pure jealousy" – could actually be true. Since, in all honesty, all aspects in Meghan's Holiday Celebration honestly feels lovely. Yes, it's all awkwardly over-the-top, silliness and extravagant – but doesn't that represent precisely what the holiday season is about? And the advice she gives might be absurd, but the example she sets seems authentically beautifully curated.

Anything she attempts, she executes with panache. Her recipes looks scrumptious, the wreath she crafts is gorgeous, her presents are almost too pretty to open. Nothing is mediocre or visually unappealing – even the way she ties her kitchen garment is stylish and elegant. She doesn't bung a meal in the oven, it "goes for a spin", and she creases gift paper like an craft master. She also seems to be completely savoring herself from start to finish. How could any cynical observer not be convinced, bursting with seasonal cheer and left with a deep longing for crafted festive snaps or a vegetable display where broccoli is positioned in the likeness of a Christmas ring?

Meghan was once an actress for a living, obviously, but even so, after the intensity of attention she has endured from the moment she started dating Prince Harry, a theoretical combination of two legendary actresses would find it hard to appear this naturally. Her unwillingness to modify or even tone down her shtick, even though it being so constantly, internationally ridiculed, is weirdly comforting. In our uncertain world, here is something we can depend on: Meghan will be like this, whatever happens. We will always know our position with her.

If you're still not buying her brand, a reminder that will undoubtedly come as a relief: you are not obligated to. We don't have the draft in this country, and if there were, it would be doubtful to include watching With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration. If, conversely, you choose to watch and are consumed by longing about her picture-perfect Christmas, all is not lost either. Be you a royal or a everyday person, hardly any child fully understands the dedication and labor their mum puts in in the holiday season. So you can find comfort by imagining her children's faces when they unfold a calligraphy note that says, 'I love you because you are brave,' from a DIY festive calendar, rather than a chocolate.
