Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his position after another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, representing the club's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from above,” Slot remarked.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He continued, “I accept my role. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Discussions with The Board

Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach explained:

“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they back me.”

He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I perceive the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”

Familiar Issues and Squad Reaction

The manager lamented familiar failings from his team in their European loss, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder said.

“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the phrases.”

He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a phase like this with outcomes this poor.”

Jones stated, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we'll continue to fight.”

“We’re going to try to get this team return to the top, prove again the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”

“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
